Caves and crypts

Today, we did a services stop, grey water out fresh water in then headed for the monastery. First built in the 1500s it suffered 3 fires last of which was in the 1800s it was only re built in the 1950s and it’s overall look is quite different.

At first it looked like a concrete was a granite.

The inside was equally as modern we saw vibrant stained glass and the main basilica was stark contrast between rich dark wood and the concrete freeze.

The crypt was covered in modern art

From here we moved around to where the caves were. We booked for 1530 at the big caves which gave us time to explore.

I found an interesting site on Google maps. It was 30mins up hill slog but well worth it.

An enormous opening, though, to the cliff face.

It took us 10 mins to get back down.

The caves it was stunning. Katie likes caves so if there is an opportunity down we go. Also 10°C was very inviting rather than the 25 on the surface.

I will let the pictures do the talking…

After the caves, we moved around to a little town, Zegama. The town is so steep there is a lift to get you from our park up to the town.

The town from the top of the lift.
