We found somewhere to park up and walked into the centre. The first stop was the cathedral built in 1965 it was not a patch on Wells.

From here we walked along the river to the coast.

The Spanish Gate so called because it was used by Spanish traders a small part of the city walls that still remain.
The Galway museum was very interesting from prehistoric times up to the present day. It told the story of the earliest settlers the trade between the Aran Isles and Galway, the culture and the Gaelic way of life, the fight for independence. Finishing with an exhibition about Ireland’s health care sector which is enormous.

On our walk back we passed along the main street full of tourists.

Rinville Park
On our way out of Galway, we stopped for lunch at Rinville Park land that used to belong to a powerful family now owned by the council.
There was a 1500 castle and a 1800 house sadly gutted by fire in the 1970s.

We then headed south to Doolin a longer drive than normal as we are going to do this section in reverse so we are in the right place at the right time for kayaking (on Monday) and for heading to Dublin. Doolin is a colourful village with a busy harbor taking passengers to the aron islands.
